Tonight I decided to check my long lost blog and see if anyone has wondered where I've been. Needless to say I felt a bit obligated to write this post.

I sort of got a little tired of the blog scene, and not thinking too much about my measly little blog I decided to just let it die out.

Im not sure what im trying to say... if I will continue to blog or not im just not sure...but I suppose for now I'll give an update on my summer during July.

Ever since my large vintage haul I've been scouring my lands for hidden vintage treasures...at antique stores in forgotten towns, and mostly at auctions full of people who only want to collect decorative glass.

I don't have any personal photos as of right now but I can show you some of the ebay finds I've been snatching up.

Here is the wedding dress of my dreams!!!

I actually bought it too!!!
Understand I actually have no plans on getting married anytime soon. I am not one of those pycho marriage girls who dreams of their wedding day her whole life. Sometimes when I am looking at vintage clothes on eBay I look in the Edwardian section for the most perfect lacy wedding gown....and when I happened upon this one I knew I must buy it and save it for that blessed day when I unite with my one true love..blah. Anyway, It hasn't arrived yet, but oh man...I can't wait...and wait and wait....

This pretty little 40's number cost a pretty penny. Im not really sure what I was thinking when I place my "high bid". This is one of those perfect eBay dresses that I always love but know I will never own, but alas I was feeling extra daring...err foolish during the last few seconds of the auction. It hasn't arrived yet either, but It should be glorious....I hope.The back is nearly the best part with the little buttons. oohh darling.

I plan on wearing it to a wedding im photographing on the 15th.

Tomarrow I have another auction to attend and I have to finish mending the most beautiful 20's Pouff sleeved, circus inspired crepe dress. I'll have to photograph it to show everyone. I won it at my last auction for $5. I spent all this evening in surgery, replacing the color blockes of fabric on the sleeves...they were in bad shape.

I have still been selling on ebay, and have quite the perfect lot of 40's and 50's teen dresses.

Here are some photos I took last summer that I really like.

So apparently I broke the rules on flickr so they terminated me. I suppose I had coming considering I can read. Anyways I made a new Virginia Blue account. It has two spaces instead of one. Im re-uploading all my WR shots. So please find me and be friends with me again. Sorry about all of this. I went to an auction last night and accidently took home the motherload of 40's Dresses. I feel overwhelmed and selfish, so you'll be seeing a lot of these clothes up on my next auction...which is at an unknown time and date. But I did begin to photograph them and halfway through I passed out on my bed. At the auction I also won three boxes of junk for $2 because one box I wanted had a pretty dress in it. Auctions are strange. Pictures to come, I just wanted to let everyone known what was going on with my flickr.

Auctions

Not mine, though I do have some up right now. But real auctions! Has anyone ever been to any? Im going to attempt this Tuesday in hopes of scoring some shady looking vintage clothing that probably won't be worth the drive. But none the less I will attempt because I need an adventure, last week I died of boredom. No joke. My last trip to the auction house left my with one paper dress and newly gained friendships with two men named Bob. Auctions can be so intimidating and scary. They also can be quite long and drawn out. You can go there for one item and wait several hours before they even bring it up to bid on. Im no expert, I just want to get a few cheap vintage dresses for my growing "classic" wardrobe.

In other news my hunt for the perfect swim suit on ebay got a little hectic last week when I bid and won two way above my prize range swim suits. The first one on accident....eh-hem im returning it....and the second one hopefully will be perfect. It may be a bit big but im an O-K seamstress.New with tags 1942, black halter? PLEASE FIT ME!!!!!!

All In The Family

It's really special being able to own and wear something that once belonged to someone in your family. After my grandma passed away in February little vintage treasures have been trickling down to me. Yesterday my mom and I were going through her broaches and I found this cute rose one. I love everything about it, mostly that at one time I know my Grandma loved it too. It's a little bizarre how glamorous my grandmother was. Soon I'll do a post about the other things she left my mother and I.

Here are some photos I took of my mother and Grandmother for my Photography class. I was documenting our lives and my Grandmothers life after her stroke.

I hope in the future to show more of my art and talk about things that are more important to me than clothing...take care everyone.

Antiques

It's been a whole week since my last post. The wedding went extremely well, photographing it was pretty enjoyable. I ended up wearing a simple Vintage navy A-line dress I bought at a little antique store. I needed something that wouldn't draw too much attention. I've been working like crazy but yesterday I had a day off. Teddy and I went to a vintage bike shop that we love to get new spokes put on my bike. Last summer after finding an old bike on the side of the road we became a little obsessed and ended up fixing 4 vintage bikes by the end of summer. Since then we've mellowed out a bit and have been working really hard to get mine in tip top shape. Every bike at this shop is phenomenal. Hopefully when Teddy gets everything together I'll show you photographs of my RIDE!The little village the shop is located in is so darling. We stopped at a bunch of antique stores. I didn't have much luck till the end when we found ourselves in a Wal-Mart sized building stocked to the brim with antiques. It was really overwhelming. After looking through stacks of 70's formal gowns I came upon 3 perfect dresses.

I'm only going to give you a little peak at the other two.Hopefully I'll actually photograph myself in them soon enough for you to actually remember this post.

The first one is a 50's Abercrombie & Fitch of New York day dress and the second is a 30's oh so perfect depression era dress. Why are most all 30's dresses sheer?

Curls

I tried some of the suggested curling methods you guys mentioned. Im not sure which works the best yet and im still not very good at any of them. I tried a hot roller and I added curling gel so it will stay.

In more succesful news my brown sunglasses came today from eBay. I wish I knew if they were from the 40's or 50's. Any guesses? They came with their original Emilie Roberts case. I love them, and they fit my head great!

Im excited about the wedding im photographing tomarrow. With the forecast of 90 some degrees Im not sure what I'll end up wearing. Im still thinking about the pretty lace number I wrote about earlier. And if anyone is interested Teddy and I bought the newly weds this amazing whale kite!!!!

Only ours is blue, and from China! See you guys soon.

Historic Clothing

Here are some of my latest vintage clothing finds. This 1930's dress I scored at a flea market for $5!
It's simple and elegent, the lace detailing around the sleeves really gets me.
This dress is a little harder to appreciate from these photographs. I'd say it's about 100 years old. There is hardly anything wrong with it besides a few missing hooks. I purchased it at a second hand shop I actually use to work at. The owner is a bit crazy but upstairs is entirely filled with wonderful real vintage from 20's flapper, art deco, 40's and victorian. Some pieces are truly breath taking...and so are their price tags. Im not sure why but this piece was only $18 so I snatched It up right away. The owner randomly prices things so sometimes you can get a good deal. Im going to wear this to a wedding im photographing this weekend. Hopefully I'll get some pictures with me wearing it and the dress will come to life!

I also went to my favorite thrift store and found a pretty 50's swim suit. I've been hoping for so long to find an old swim suit in a thrift store.

I think im going to hold on to this one for now. See how it acts in water.

Long Hair

I've been growing my hair out for a few years now. My goal was to make it to waist length, but lately I've gotten so tired of it. It would look nice with some loose curls but I don't really have the patience for that. Plus with the thickness of my hair curls fall out quickly. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any quick and easy curling tips for thick long hair.
I'd hate to cut it.

Cat Eye part 2

I just won these cat eye sun glasses on eBay today. I think they'll fit my head better than my black ones. They also have cute little gold roses on the sides. Please excuse the goofy wig, these aren't my photos.

I was browsing and found these great vintage photographs. This girl below is my idol.

This photograph is just perfect in every way. Very appealing.

I also went a bit crazy and started bidding over $70 on a vintage swim suit. I lost of course, because great vintage swim suits on eBay go for an arm and a leg. The cute 40's nylon romper I swam in other day looks like it's not going to work out on several levels. Keep your eyes peeled.

First of all I'd like to apologize for not being around lately. I really have been quite the lazy bum bum. I've been busy going to flea markets and antique stores and waitressing! It's really no excuse though, this blog is important to me. I found some great 30's and 40's vintage for cheap cheap!!! I'll photograph them later to show you. I actually plan on taking a wardrobe remix shot tomarrow too! I just spent several hours on the store so you can check that out if you'd like. In the mean time The Girl Who Married A Bear tagged me to write my 6 quirks. This should be interesting.

1. I unapologetically pick my nose, and I think it's odd when others are grossed out

2. I get tired and bored of things very easily. I wish I could transfer schools every year.

3. I distance myself from others so that I don't have to commit to any serious relationships. Basically I am selfish with my time and affection.

4. I talk to my pets, specifically my cat millie. She thinks I am her mother.

5. I am very skeptical of people places and things. Im really trying to work on it. It leads to a very unhappy life.

6. I am a Fine Art Major, but sometimes I get so sick of the art world. It really can be full of junk and bad opinions lots of times.

I hope this helps you get to know me. I realized I don't reveal too much. Maybe I'll start answering more of your questions.

Today everything was half off at Salvation Army. I picked up this dress and a few other neat things. These flower hair clips are so cute. They need a bit of cleaning, but I love how unique they are!Tonight Teddy is coming over an we're going to watch A League of Their Own. Vintage?

Finding vintage in thrift stores is thrilling however sometimes it can be difficult to know for sure how old the piece is or if it even is old at all. I feel fairly confident in my abilities to date vintage but sometimes I get stumped. The more I handle vintage and compare decades the easier it becomes.

I use to value my mother as the voice of truth when it came to this skill, that is until she dated this 1930's dress as 70's prom wear. ( I love my mom) Here are a few ways I use to judge vintage with the help of the Vintage Fashion Guild....

The zipper!

This is a huge one for me. When I find a beautiful dress with a metal zipper I get really excited.
This usually means it's early 60's and prior.

Metal zippers not used on women’s dresses until the late 1930’s. This means if your dress buttons on the side it's awesome and old.
Coil zippers - invented in 1940, but not in common usage until the early 60’s.
Side seam zippers - late 1930’s-1960’s.
Center back dress zippers - seen occasionally in the 1940’s and early 50s, but generally later 50’s and 60’s and always from the 70’s on.
Velcro® invented in 1948, not used in clothing much until 1960’s.
Vintage slips, bras and garters have metal hardware, not plastic.

Fabric!

Whose tired of 70's polyester? I know I am, Thats why when I find vintage made of a higher quality fabric or (gasp) Rayon I've got quite a find. New look 60's cotton is always exciting.

Rayon (known as artificial silk) was a French process developed during the 19th century. AKA Viscose (English process). The name Rayon was coined in 1924 and was used extensively for lingerie and light summer dresses until the 1950s when nylon became popular.
Orlon®, trademarked by DuPont stared development as Fiber A in 1941, but production did not strat until 1950 in South Carolina. Boom years of productionwere the mid 1950s and 1960s.
Dacron®, trademarked by DuPont and denotes numerous types of polyester yarn. Used in manufacture from 1953.
Nylon was the first true synthetic developed by DuPont in the 1938, available to the American public in May 1940, used in stockings. Not used in clothing until well after WWII.
Qiana®, a filament nylon used for woven and knitted fabrics was registered by DuPont in the 1970's.
Spandex - first commercial use in 1959, seen in lingerie in the early 60's, but not in clothing much until the 80's. (Registered to DuPont as Lycra®)

The Label!

Theres something very lovely and quaint about a home made dress, but honestly when I see a very old worn out tag that reads something like Lilly Anne or Jonathon Logan my heart skips. The tag can tell you a lot about the article of clothing. I love being able to hop online and learn about a fashion designer from the past.

Look for labels in the side seams and even the hems of older garments.
Garment Care labels began in 1971 in the USA. The current labels were introduced in 1983.
International care symbols were developed 1971.
The USA Textile Products Identifications Act, 1960 mandated the use of fabric content labels.
The Fur Products labeling act of 1952 required an accurate description of fur. i.e. "Hudson Seal" became sheared muskrat.
A small 'e' on the label of a pair of Levis denims means they were manufactured after 1971 and if a capital 'E' they are pre-71.

It's really hard to see the sweet detail on this velvet blazer. it's got pretty rhinestone buttons and a cute peter pan collar. Not to mention the other beautiful details around the hem and sleeves.

I bought these 50's cat eye sunglasses a few months ago. I was pretty tired of huge 70's frames that you can buy knocked off at forever21. (I'm tired of forever 21 in general) I wanted something a bit more refined and classic. I'm not sure however how well they fit my head. Their a bit narrow. As soon as I find a better pair I'll sell these one in the store. But for now....

Lately it has been so cold and windy. The weather has pushed me just enough to throw on this super comfy dress that is perfectly a few sizes too big. It's the ideal dress for my day off!

Today im mailing some vintage to a few lovely ladies then im off to visit Teddy.

Today Teddy and I are going to a few antique stores, then I'm off to waitress at a fancy little Italian place.

Who wants white teeth? If you don't want to pay 45$ for white strips try this home remedy. Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide! It might not taste the best (salty) but I think it does a better job than white strips. Plus it will only costs you tops $3!

Just make sure to rinse out very good and don't swallow the peroxide! I always brush my teeth afterwards with tooth paste!

I want to be able to wear red lips more often. Sometimes it's such a hassle. Ad least i won't have to worry about yellow teeth looking even worse against the red!

Detailing

Last night I put my hair in curlers, to help me out with this mornings vintage hair style. It actually did the trick.

The dress I wore today is from the late 30's. I feel is though because of the depression we don't have much vintage from the 30's. If we do it's probably in pretty bad shape. It's sort of interesting to think about. How cool would it be to find a vintage dress you are wearing in an old photo. I'd probably pee my pants.

Perfect Purse

Yesterday I thrifted the most perfect purse . It even came with a little coin purse attached inside. The metal clasp is out of this world! I really like it.

Tea Party

Today I'm going to a mother daughter tea party at my moms church. I have no idea what to expect but the entire idea sounds lovely.

In more hair news I learned (after weeks of practice) how to do the circle braid. It's a bit loose at the bottom but this is the basic effect.

Last night I went to my first auction in hopes of some interesting finds. I learned all about auctions and what to expect from two older men both named Bob. They were pretty helpful and coached me through my first auction purchase. I got a bit excited and accidentally won this paper dress.

It's sort of an interesting artifact from the past. You might be seeing in the store soon though.

Today I'm going to take photos of more auctions for next week. I'll be using my brothers girlfriend as my model. The results will be posted here soon!!!

Today was an early morning. My oldest brother was graduating from university.

Vintage hair is one of those things that is both amazing and terrifying. I recently became determined to figure out some way to achieve a similar look.
I know of one gal who got it right. Here is Double Speak.

I achieved my hairstyle from the help of a tutorial on Victory Curls. Since I have long hair and little patience this was exactly what I needed. Learn how here on: Youtube

Dyeing Wine

A few days ago, against my better judgement I decided to purchase this 30's formal dress. The dress was a highly faded blue and pink that looked as though is was left out in the sun for 40 years. It also carried the lovely sent of cigarettes and perfume. After I let it air dry on the clothes line for 9 hours ( that smell was horrendous) I went to the local Wal-mart (never go to Wal-mart) to buy some RIT dye.

I am actually very happy with the results. It now stands as a beautiful wine color and I think has a whole new life to it. It actually may of been worth waiting at the checkout for 15 minutes while listening to a small child scream at her mother to buy her a toy.

I am still debating selling this dress. There has got to by some one in need of this more than I.

Today I have a heap of clothes to mend. Vintage is beautiful, but sometimes I get weary of constantly fixing tears in my clothes from weak thread....

Im finally home from university, finals are over and now it is time to get down to business. I have an awful lot I want to get accomplished this summer. One of things is to get back to selling things on Ebay. Here are a few items i'll be putting up today!!!

That is a photo of myself and my boy from last summer.

I found that great black 30's dress from Goodwill the day before and was itching to wear out.

I love vintage clothing. Right now im upsessed with 40's day dresses.

I specifically love this dress from thesnailandthecyclops

It is perfect in every way. Since I am 20 years old now I want to start dressing more simplified and refined like this photo shows so eloquently.

I recently made a few purchases on Ebay hoping to help me in my endeavor.

I thrift most of my clothes but occasionally the older dresses just are too hard to find in thrift stores.

I am equally excited about this one as well.

So now I want to hear about you and what you like.
